LONG HAUL FLIGHT SURVIVAL TIPS!

LONG HAUL FLIGHT TIPS!

I love going on vacation, who does right? There is nothing like heading to my home way form home- Disneyland CA or Walt Disney world or Tokyo Disney Japan but getting there means LONG haul flights, especially for me since I live in Australia. I don’t mind to fly but doesn’t mean I enjoy the endless hours upon that one small aircraft seat either. So over the years I have established some good habits to have while flying, whether it’s a 7 hour flight a 14 hour flight or a many leg 23 hour flight (which is difficult to get through trust me).  So let me share my tips with you.

DRESS COMFORTABLY
So I have been I the airport wearing sweat pants and a jumper which almost looked like I was in PJ’s and I have also dressed in a cute little dress and heels which running around the airport changing flights etc. it isn’t an idea outfit to wear either so I think you have to find a happy medium. I find wearing a stretchy comfortable long sleeve shirt, a sports bra or lace bralett (no push up bras lady’s the underwire can be most uncomfortable while trying to rest on the plane), jeans or comfortable modest short or skirt, a coat or jumper and good shoes like sneakers or easy to take off boots. This way you’re not looking too over or underdressed in the airport and you could also pack a pair of sweat pants in you carry on to change into once on and settle on your aircraft. ALSO another big tip is to please please wear compression socks once on the plain. Even knee high tight tube socks could do the trick but these are important to keep your legs save and reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis. Once when I did not wear any socks over a very long haul flight and after my leg veins wear producing and my legs wear very sore. So I highly recommend picking these up, they will also keep you warm on the flight.

PACK LIGHT
One thing I do it pack light especially in my carryon’s because think about it, you are walking around the airport trying to find you terminal or gate, you don’t want to be worrying about lugging around big heavy bags behind you. I personally take a small handbag sized hard case to keep all my valuables close and safe and I also take a small backpack which usually contains my jacket or hoodie, a change of sweatpants, a spare change of underwear, small toilettes I need for the plane, snacks and a book.  Backpacks are easy to carry on your shoulder and I just find them confident for me.

BRING A WATER BOTTEL, SNACKS AND ENTERTAINMENT
Another very import thing to remember is to stay hydrated! Up in the air for all those hours can really dehydrate you make you skin dry, its not pretty. So I suggest bring an empty 1L plastic drink bottle with you, that way you can fill it up once on your plane and you don’t have to worry about asking the hostess every too second for those tiny cause of water because you really need to drink a lot.  Take snacks as well. Although you do get provided meals on most long haul flight, you may want to bring some snacks with you. These can not be fresh produce or anything like that, but labelled, sealed, unopened things like confectionary can be taken aboard. I usually take a bag of M&M’S.
Another thing if you like, is to bring you own entertainment such as a good novel, magazine, puzzle or colour me book, DS or your laptop. Its up to you but most flight do provide free movie access from your seat TV which is a plus.

STAY FRESH
OK I know of some people who don’t take any freshen up products with them on the plane and just wing it, leaving their flight feeling nasty, I say that a no no. You want to get of your flight feeling slightly normal so here is some good thing to bring.
Wet wipes- there are my saviour. You can use them to wipe you face underarms or any other areas you need some freshen up in after sitting for 14 hours (do this in the privacy of the toilets of course)
Tooth brush & tooth paste- I bring along a travel size tooth brush and paste and about 1 hour before my flight is due to land, I freshen up my mouth which is always a must. Optional also bring a small mouth wash.
Hair comb- because there is nothing worse then aeroplane hair.
Fragrance- I bring a small tester size perfume with me to keep myself selling nice.
Face wipes/wash- if you are girl who wears make up to the airport please remove it once settled into you flight. Sleeping with makeup on especially on a flight is horrid (believe me I have done it) so remove make up with a face wipe or small face wash in the bathroom.
Moisturizer- I think this is the most important freshen item. As you so high up in the air your skin really dries out so its great to bring a small hand and body moisturiser. I also bring a face moisturiser and lip balm.
Panadol and any medication- of course.
remember these items can only big very small sizes (less then 100ml) not full sized items.

STRETCH-
Stretching any moving your body is important during long haul flight so remember to stretch, shack shack shack your body to improve circulation, walk around the cabin when you can, even just get up to go to the bathroom every couple of hours. Just remember to move.

TRY TO SLEEP
If you can, try to catch a nap. It will pass the time and you will be less tired once your fight is over. Try bringing along ear plugs or head phones, a sleep eye mask and a neck pillow.

BE PREPARED
Have your passports and boarding passes ready. Don’t wear jewellery. Keep all liquids in a clear toiletries bag ready to remove for security. Carry a pen. Have an idea of where your terminal/ gate is. Get to the airport early.  Being prepared for you flight can really help the whole process.

Well that’s all I have for now on the topic. Keep an eye out on future flight blogs such as adding Disney transportation to your booking.

And remember live life with a smile and a song!
